The use of silver is commonplace in modern medicine and is impregnated into would dressings as a method of promoting wound healing due to its antimicrobial properties. Colloidal silver is a liquid suspension containing many microscopic silver particles that consist of various concentrations of ionic silver, silver colloids, ionic silver compounds, or silver proteins in purified water. Originally thought of as a panacea, colloidal silver was then superseded with the introduction of antibiotics that were cheaper and hailed as the new ‘silver bullet’.

Colloidal silver has also been seen to not remove tissue cell enzymes unlike antibiotics and is even considered by some as a second immune system. Antibiotics only tackle around 12 bacteria forms and have no effect on viruses of any kind.
Due to colloidal silvers varied benefits, it can be taken hourly as a method of treating illness or infection whereas for the maintenance of all round general health, it may be taken daily. Colloidal silver can even be used as a gargle if so desired. Whichever way it is taken it is important to remember that holding it under the tongue for between 30 and 60 seconds can increase its effectiveness.
