What is Spirulina ? |
| Spirulina is a microscopic blue-green algae that flourishes in warm climates and alkaline water. Algae were the first life form to exist on the earth 3.5 billion years ago. |
| |
| Spirulina is nature’s rich whole plant source of gamma linolenic acid (GLA), beta-carotene and chlorophyll containing all the essential amino acids (including essential fatty acids). Spirulina is 60-70% complete protein that is 95% digestible, and is considered to be the most concentrated plant food that have ever existed. Unlike most other algae, its unique soft cell wall is made of complex sugars and protein, which makes the rich nutrients highly digestible to the body. There is no fruit, vegetable or meat that can provide such complete protein to meet the nutritional needs of the human body. Spirulina is a natural whole food, which can help maintain a balanced diet. |
| |
| Although Spirulina has a long history, it became commercially available only at the beginning of the 1970s. Spirulina has been selected by NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and the European Space Agency as one of the primary foods to be cultivated during long-term space missions. Spirulina is a popular natural food supplement in many countries. |

What are the benefits of using Spirulina ? |
| It is hard to eat our recommended 5 a day. The British Nutrition Foundation national diet and nutrition survey in 2004 showed that only 13% of men and 15% of women met the 5 A DAY recommendation of eating at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables each day. Men and women consumed, on average, less than 3 portions of fruit and vegetables per day. Spirulina is a natural whole food that can help maintain a balanced diet, especially for people who have a hectic lifestyle or who do not eat enough fruit and vegetables. |
