Colloidal silver contains microscopic particles of silver suspended in purified water. It is seen by some as a possible alternative to modern day antibiotics, which have become less effective owing to over prescribing, which has resulted in many bugs becoming resistant to them. Colloidal silver has been shown to not suffer from this major drawback, as there has been no reported resistance to it. Although used extensively up until the 1930’s, colloidal silver fell out of favour when the first antibiotics were discovered. These provided a ‘new’ cheaper alternative and became the primary source of treatment instead. Today however, silver has made something of a comeback and is again being used in modern medicine.
