Milled from chana dhal, gram flour is sometimes called besan flour. This fine yellow flour is useful for fritters, batters, pancakes, sauces and as a vegan egg substitute.ram or channa dahl is a member of the chick pea family which mills into a fine yellow flour which is a rich, natural and gluten free source of protein and dietary fibre.

Ingredients

Chana dhall.

Suggested Use

If you did want to make oinion bhajias here's the recipe:

Onion bhajias:

  • 75g gram flour
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp mixed spice
  • 4 tbsp water
  • 100g sliced onion
  • 25g grated potato
  • 5 tbsp oil

Mix together the gram flour and all the spices. Add water to make a smooth batter. Add sliced onions and grated potatoes and mix well. Heat oil in a heavy based frying pan and gently drop in spoonfuls of the mixture. Cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from oil and drain before serving.
